Holistic Therapies

The meaning of Holistic is 'whole', so when we talk about Holistic Therapies it means that we consider and treat a person as a whole, not just the symptoms. We look at how the mental, emotional, physical and spiritual aspects of a person are affecting the well-being as a whole. Everyone is different and sometimes certain treatments are more suitable for certain ailments, or sometimes a combined approach may be best (this can be discussed during consultation). Below you will find the list of therapies as well as a description of what the therapies are. If you are not sure which treatment to book, you can either email, call or text prior to booking to have a chat. However, once you arrive for your appointment we mutually decide that a different therapy may, in fact, be a better option than with the exception of hot Stone massage this can easily be accommodated during the appointment.

Reflexology

Reflexology is an ancient practice that came to the UK in the 1960s after being revolutionised by an American Physiotherapist, Eunice Ingham. Over the past 20 or so years, there have been major advances and development in practice with lots of exciting results supporting the potential benefits of Reflexology. It is believed that the body is connected, and by using pressure to stimulate specific points on the body using pressure (similar to acupressure), you encourage blood and energy flow, therefore stimulating the body's natural healing response. Reflexology is most commonly carried out on the feet. However, it can also be carried out on the Hands, Face and Ears. So if you aren't keen on having your feet touched, then you can still benefit from Reflexology. Reflexology feels like a massage to the client, and it should NOT be consistently painful. You may have more sensitive areas and occasionally feel pain if there is a particular imbalance within the body. However, the treatment should be deeply relaxing and enjoyable as we heal most when we are relaxed.

Therapeutic Massage

Massages help to support the body's soft tissues, which include muscles, ligaments, tendons and fascia. There are a range of different massage techniques available that can have different aims. I am qualified in Aromatherapy, which uses essential oils and gentle massage techniques to help the body soothe and heal; Swedish massage, which has more of an invigorating approach; Deep tissue and Sports massage (level 4), where I can target more specific areas where tension and injury have occurred. Instead of offering many different massage options, I have found it easier to offer them under the name of Therapeutic Massage. I will adapt and tailor each treatment based on each client's reason for the appointment and preferences.

Indian Head Massage

Also known as Champissage. Indian Head Massage originates as a therapy provided by barbers but has become increasingly popular due to its deeply relaxing and tension-relieving effects. It is a versatile therapy that can be provided seated or lying down (for longer treatments, I often combine both) but also with or without massage oil.  This will be discussed and mutually agreed upon during the consultation during the appointment.

For a full treatment, the areas that are included are the upper shoulders, neck, scalp and face. So make sure you come make-up free and have clothing that is comfortable. You will be provided with a sarong-style towel to protect your clothing if you are having oil used during your treatment. The oils used can be great for your scalp and hair to help nourish the skin and provide a deeper more effective massage.

Ear Candling

Ear Candling, aka Thermal Auricular Therapy, is an ancient practice where hollow candles made of natural cotton and wax (normally Beeswax) that contains protective filters are placed in the outer ear where the natural heat and vibration of the candling burning down at a safe and controlled rate helps to create an almost massage-like effect to the middle and inner ear encouraging the natural cleansing and clearing process, helping to ease a range of ears, eyes, nose, throat and head ailments such as allergies, excessive ear wax, tinnitus, sinusitis and more. The candles can be combined with acupressure and drainage massage around the ears and face. This non-invasive and gentle therapy has a deeply relaxing and therapeutic effect.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage

Manual Lymphatic Drainage is a specialised therapy that supports the lymphatic system, which controls the body's fluid levels and is an important part of the body's immunity.

It is a very gentle therapy that often gets called massage; however, the purpose of the therapy is to help support lymphatic circulation, which is very close to the surface of the skin, as opposed to massage, which supports muscles, tendons, etc.

MLD is a perfect therapy to support people who suffer from oedema, lymphedema, lipoedema, poor circulation, immune support and post-surgery recovery.
